Allison Macfarlane, Distribution Manager Investment Bond Division at Centuria Capital Limited

In Allison’s career she has worked towards striving for excellence not only for herself but for others in the industry. A long-standing member of Financial Executive Women and an Advocate to many, we weren’t surprised Allison was nominated for the Positive Progression of Women Award. Voted by our Advisory Board for her commitment to supporting more women in the industry and soon after the financial advice sector.

Background:
In 2002, before it became fashionable to support women in our industry, Allison identified a need to link women who had senior management roles in dealer groups.

As a Key Account Manager, Allison supported a broad range of advice businesses. It became clear that women in senior roles did not have the opportunity to meet other women with similar roles who shared similar professional challenges. Together with a colleague, Allison founded the PEER group. A group of senior female peers who worked in or had a senior role that supported advice businesses.

The format was sandwich lunch and a professional agenda focusing on current challenges being faced by the members. Many of the FEW values around openness, confidentiality and mindset to create a community of sharing were at the foundation of the group.

At a time when women’s initiatives were not taken seriously. This group was successful because of their professional approach to the PEER Group.
Alison’s commitment to supporting more women in the industry turned to the financial advice sector. Allison joined the committee to head up the initiative and was actively instrumental in designing and running the program of women’s events from the inaugural event from 2013 - 2016.

The popularity of these events grew under her stewardship. Now the good work she has started will continue through the partnership between the FPA and FEW.

Congratulations Allison.
